HIS 275 - Historical Research & Writing (3)This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of historical research and writing. Throughout the course, students will learn to assess the potentials and limitations of historical argumentation, paying attention to the proper use of sources, the power of narrative, and the problems of bias. Additionally, students will participate in key skill-building exercises that are essential to the work of history, most notably writing and the archival research. Students will spend ample time producing, commenting on, and revising their own writing. Likewise, they will gain hands-on experience in finding, selecting, and citing archival materials to construct historical arguments. By the end of the course, students will be amply equipped to pursue historical research projects and participate in higher-level discussions of theory and historiography.
