Student Responsibility
Fulfillment of all degree requirements is the student’s responsibility.
Asbury provides academic advising resources for students, such as Degree Progress Audit, Major/Minor/Program Sheets, and Academic Advising. While these and other academic support resources are available to students as a courtesy, they are intended as student planning tools only and do not constitute final official degree requirements. The responsibility for understanding and fulfilling all degree requirements rests entirely upon the student. Any error in printed materials or digital/online records should be reported immediately by the student to the Registrar’s Office.
Asbury University undergraduates in all programs are subject to all academic policies unless the policy is specifically labeled as unique to one particular program.
A.A. Associate of Arts (Traditional Undergraduates)
A.S. Associate of Science (APS)
- Admission standards for the associate’s degree are the same as for the bachelor’s degree.
- There are no differences between courses offered for the associate’s and the bachelor’s degree.
- A student who holds a bachelor’s degree may not then be awarded an associate’s degree.
- A student may not be awarded a bachelor’s degree and an associate’s degree at the same Commencement.
- A student must declare an associate’s degree before their junior year (60 credits earned).
- Students who previously earned their associate’s degree from Asbury University must reapply and be readmitted for the B.A. or B.S. degree.
Associate’s Degree Requirements
All candidates for an associate’s degree must meet the following requirements to graduate:
- Complete a minimum total of 60 semester hours. Students with waivers of any Foundations or other requirements must still complete the total 60.0 credits required for graduation with an associate’s degree.
- Students must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours (not transfer or institutional credit) as a student at Asbury University.
- Students must complete the final two consecutive full-time semesters (or a minimum equivalent to 24 credit hours) at Asbury University. Part-time students will require more semesters at Asbury to meet this equivalent.
- All students must complete a minimum of 12 of their final 21 credits at Asbury. If the maximum transfer limit (30 credits) has not been reached, pre-approved transfer approval may be granted to bring in no more than 9 credits from all other sources to finish degree requirements after attending Asbury. - If finishing a minor for an emphasis, 50% of required credits must be completed at Asbury.
- Earn a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average.
- Fulfill all the Liberal Arts Foundations requirements specific to their program which make up the requirements for the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees.
- Note that the Traditional Undergraduate (TUG) Associate of Arts Degrees are not required to do the final Cross-Cultural Immersion Experience (CCE 150EX ) for the A.A. degree. However, Students who earn their associate’s degree from Asbury and are readmitted for the B.A. or B.S. degree in the Traditional program will be required then to satisfy CCE 150EX Cultural Immersion Experience for the Bachelor’s Degree. - Traditional undergraduates must receive a passing grade of ‘P’ in their final registration in chapel. See chapel requirements in Academic Information for Undergraduates .
- Traditional undergraduates may choose to complete an emphasis using an undergraduate minor with the Associate of Arts degree. All requirements for the minor must be complete to graduate with the emphasis. 50% of the credits in any elected emphasis must be completed at Asbury.
- Complete comprehensive examinations and assessment tests as required by individual departments and programs or the University administration.
- Complete a Degree Application with the Registrar’s Office for the correct academic/commencement year of their expected graduation date by the posted deadline (generally, Oct. 15th for December graduation, and Feb. 1st for May or August graduation). The Degree Application link will be emailed from the Registrar’s Office based on student’s remaining requirements and graduation date. Students may email Registrar’s Office for degree application information when reaching fulfillment of all requirements.
NOTE: If the student’s expected graduation date must be moved to a new academic/commencement year, a new degree application is required to be submitted by the next posted deadline. Following the Correct Academic Catalog
Students must graduate under the requirements (Foundations, major, and minor) of the Academic Catalog in effect at the time of first enrollment. Note exceptions:
- Students may elect to graduate under new requirements placed in effect while enrolled.
- Students changing majors or minors, or adding newly approved majors or minors must move all requirements (Foundations, major, and minor) to the Catalog in effect at the time of declaration. If declaring a newly-approved major or minor, student must move the first available Catalog the new program is offered under (if declaring in advance of the next academic year).
- Students who withdraw or become inactive must reenroll within two years of the last term attended to continue on the same year catalog degree requirements. Students who re-enroll after the two years become subject to all catalog degree requirements in place at the time of re-enrollment.
- NOTE: Returning students may not re-enroll in a degree program, major, or minor that has been discontinued. Returning students in such programs must declare a current active program at the time of readmission.
NOTE: The University reserves the right to change degree requirements, major and minor requirements, and course offerings, as well as to cancel any course not selected by a sufficient number of students (low enrollment) at the time offered.
