HIS 353 - East Asian History and Civilization (3)This course is a general survey of the interrelated yet divergent histories of three East Asian countries: China, Japan, and Korea. By tracing developments in culture, philosophy, and socio-economic structures, this course will chart the radical changes which took place in East Asian society from the dawn of history to the present. The first section of the course will focus on the development of East Asian culture and the various empires which rose and fall prior to the modern period. The second section of the course will focus on the transformation of East Asian societies brought about through increased interactions with the West and internal movements for modernization.
Prerequisite(s): None Grading Method: Letter Grade Term Typically Offered: Every other fall
