Off-Campus Programs: Study Abroad & Stateside
General Policy
Asbury students’ participation in Asbury-owned off-campus programs requires completion of one application process available at https://www.asbury.edu/academics/global-initiatives-programs/application-process/. Asbury students’ participation in External/Off-Campus programs owned by affiliate organizations requires two applications, one for Asbury University and one for the host program. Successfully completing the application process through Asbury gives the student approval to participate in an approved Off-Campus Program. Students who participate in Off-Campus Programs without university approval will not be enrolled as a student for the period of the Off-Campus Program and will jeopardize any credits earned. Students participating in affiliate programs must also be formally accepted by the host institution. Registration will take place only upon final approval by the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives, or designee, and confirmation from the host organization of acceptance into their program. Eligibility
Asbury Students:
- Students participating in Off-Campus Programs are required to have completed at least two semesters of college coursework at Asbury. Transfer students must have at least one semester completed at Asbury.
- Students may only be approved for an Asbury or Asbury-affiliate semester abroad program in their final semester of study prior to graduation if they have a recommendation from their academic advisor(s) and have been pre-approved by the Registrar with special approval from the Provost. Late receipt of study abroad overseas transcripts can delay a student’s graduation.
- Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 for semesters abroad (please note that some affiliate programs have higher GPA requirements) and at least a 2.5 for all other study abroad programming. A petition process is available upon request.
- Students must maintain good standing in all areas (Student Accounts, Chapel Office, Student Life, and Academic Affairs) up to and during participation in the program. Any probation, including chapel probation, will make the student ineligible for participation.
- Additional study abroad fees apply for students participating in approved affiliate Off-Campus Programs ($200 for summer; $500 for fall or spring). Additional tuition rates may also apply for affiliate programs.
- Tuition Waiver cannot be applied to Off-Campus Program charges. The only exception is made for Asbury University Study Abroad programs (i.e. Paris or China). Tuition waiver may only be applied to one such study abroad opportunity, and it requires approval by Human Resources.
- Students will pay all charges (except required deposits for specific affiliate programs) to Asbury University. All charges must be paid in full, or an approved payment plan must be in place, by the first day of the semester.
- Students may not be enrolled in independent/directed studies or online courses through Asbury while participating in a non-Asbury affiliate Off-Campus Program. The Asbury University Study Abroad programs may have online course(s) accounted into the curriculum.
- Students may not participate in the same program more than once and may not participate in more than two fall/spring semester programs.
- Academy students are not eligible to participate in Off-Campus Programs.
- Each student is responsible to make necessary arrangements to have Semester Abroad transcripts/grade reports sent directly to the Registrar’s Office for the academic credit/grades to be recorded on the student’s academic record. Any applicable transcript order fees are also the responsibility of the student. If transcripts are not requested and received by 60 days after the close of the term, all grades will revert to “W” (withdrawn).
- The courses from the Study Abroad transcript/grade report will be recorded as the student’s registered semester classes and the grades will be recorded and count towards the student’s Asbury GPA.

Visiting Students from Other Institutions:
- Students visiting who apply to Asbury University for the purpose of participating in Off-Campus Programs are required to have completed at least two semesters of college coursework at their home institution and to have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 (please note that some programs have higher GPA requirements). A petition process is available upon request.
- Students will be required to submit the appropriate paperwork including the Home Institution Permission Form, Letter of Good Standing from their home institution, and signed Principles and Expectations of Community Life. Contact the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives for complete details and instructions.
- Students will submit the appropriate deposits to Asbury University.
- Because the visiting student technically remains a student at their home institution, all payments for participation (except the initial housing deposit) are handled through the Business Office of the home campus. All charges must be paid in full by the first day of the semester.

Application Process
For Asbury students, the application process begins with the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives. Students will be required to submit the appropriate paperwork along with necessary travel forms. For visiting students from other institutions, the application process begins first in the Admissions Office where they will apply to be a “Visiting Student” and be accepted before continuing their application with the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives. Visiting students will be required to submit the appropriate paperwork including the Home Institution Permission Form, Letter of Good Standing from their home institution, and signed Principles and Expectations of Community Life. Asbury University Semester Abroad Program
Semester in Paris (OFC 370, Paris, France - Asbury University Program)
Program Director: Dr. Linda Stratford, Professor of Art History and History
The Paris Semester provides an international experience in a major cosmopolitan center; a full semester of liberal arts credit; an internship in one’s field (such as visual art, music, media, ministry, or French language); a dormitory setting with other Asbury students (offering similar security and benefits to a dorm setting back home); and supervision by Asbury faculty. Prior French language experience is not required to spend a semester with Asbury University in Paris, though the option of French language instruction is available within the program course offerings. Courses will regularly incorporate site visits. Paris houses the largest art collections in the world, for example, so trips to the Louvre, Pompidou Center, and other important cultural centers will be a regular part of the educational experience for the Paris Semester. Christian College Consortium Student Visitor Program
Founded in 1971, the Christian College Consortium is a group of thirteen Christian colleges and universities located across the United States who–through scholarships, conferences and exchange programs–serve the cause of Christ in higher education by encouraging and assisting one another in the pursuit of their respective missions. Through semester-long Consortium programs, such as the Student Visitor Program, students from member institutions study at other consortium colleges or Off-Campus Programs (including Study Abroad). In addition, the Vechery Scholarship provides annual awards to students from each Consortium member institution. Travel Course Options
Various Asbury University departments sponsor short-term travel courses on an occasional basis (i.e. Human Dignity Tour of Central Europe, Media Communications at the Olympics). These may be abroad or stateside opportunities. Information will be available from the sponsoring department and the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives. All travel courses must be approved through a proposal process available by contacting the Director of Global Programs & Initiatives. Clearance, registration, and other logistics for students are also required to process through the Office of Global Programs & Initiatives. Travel course fees and expenses may be non-refundable. A student engaged in a summer travel course is permitted to take only one online summer course, preferably with different meeting dates than their travel course dates. Students engaged in a summer travel course will not be permitted to register for two online courses. It is the students’ responsibility to approve travel plans and timelines with their online course instructors.
