PSY 420 - Psychology of Personhood (3)

“Who am I?” This deceptively simple question underlies classic and current research about personhood and the self - dubbed by William James as psychology’s “most puzzling puzzle.” Topics to be covered include personhood, the self, why we have selves, how we come to know the self, how we take on identity, how the self Is an active agent, how the self relates to others, and problems of the self.  We will approach these issues from varying psychological and theological perspectives, with a focus on social psychological research and Wesleyan-Holiness theology. In addition, students will participate in self-reflection and self-discovery to gain a deeper and clearer understanding of their own personhood and identity.

Prerequisite(s): PSY101
Grading Method: Letter Grade
Term Typically Offered: Every other Fall - even years
