THA 381 - Theatre History II (3)

This course surveys the development of modern theatre from the Restoration to today within its social, political and economic contexts. Highpoints will include Moliere, Racine, Chekhov, Brecht, absurdism, American Realism and post-modernism. Theatre architecture, theatre technology, design concepts, acting styles, significant dramatic works, and play analysis will be explored. Theatre traditions of non-Western cultures are also included.
