LTY 600 - Reading & Writing in the Elementary School (3)

This course seeks to develop the educator’s understanding of the socio-cultural, linguistic, and psychological foundations of reading and writing processes, and how these impact literacy development. This course develops depth of understanding of the developmental stages and principles, materials, and methods of instruction involved in becoming literate and in using literacy to learn in the elementary grades. Emphasis is given to techniques for facilitating writing growth, as well as the unique challenges of developing learners’ abilities to use writing to demonstrate their learning. Instruction will address the use and assessment of Kentucky Academic Standards in English/Language Arts for P-5.
