TEL 500 - Cultural Competency for Teaching English Learners (3)

This course provides an introduction to the stages of second language acquisition embedded in a culturally responsive framework for teaching English as a second language (ESL). This course cultivates awareness of students’ sociocultural and linguistic differences as resources for teaching and learning. In addition to reading and discussing current research, candidates will spend at least ten hours observing, participating with, or teaching emergent bilingual and multilingual learners in local school settings.
