MHL 358 - Music Criticism (2)

This course will focus music criticism as a lens for evaluating and writing about music. Through an exploration of historical music criticism and its philosophical underpinnings, engagement with the writing of contemporary music critics, extensive writing of performance and recording reviews, students will develop their ability to write effectively and engagingly about music. With the focus of the course being on the critical approach to thinking about music, students will be able to apply this lens to consider more deeply the musical genres and styles that are most applicable to their interests and professional pursuits.
